The Benefits of Praise

In the sixteenth chapter of Acts, Paul found himself in a very painful predicament with Silas. After casting a devil from a woman who was a soothsayer, trouble was stirred by her masters. Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into the inner dungeon of the prison. 

In the natural, their situation looked bleak: everything pointed towards failure and desolation. As far as the natural realm was concerned, it looked to be a masterstroke of Satan to destroy Paul and keep him bound without ever coming out. Paul and Silas however, had a different plan: “At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” (Acts 16:25). Through the power of prayer and praise, the prison doors were unlocked. 

There’s something powerful about unrestrained praise. The Scripture says, “the prisoners heard them”, which means regardless of what the prisoners thought about them, they were going to praise God.
