We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
2 Thessalonians 1:3
And what shall I more say? … Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
If you don’t like the results that you have in your life then it is time to check your faith. You cannot separate faith from miracles just like you cannot separate failures from doubt and unbelief. As a matter of fact, the apostle Paul reminded the Corinthians, ‘Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.’ (2 Corinthians 13:5) Every now and then you need a faith check up just like you would have a medical check up to make sure that everything is in good working order. This is very important because you will not have any proofs until your faith has been checked, honed, sharpened and growing. This is why I want you to focus on your faith. Here are some indications that it is time to focus on your faith,
- If you don’t like the results that you are seeing
- If you are frustrated
- If you have a sense that there is more
- If you have not seen any miracles lately
- If you feel overwhelmed by life’s circumstances
- If you see your life in a cycle of negativity
- If finances are hard to come by
- If you are struggling in your health
- If you are having issues with fulfilling your vision and destiny
Faith is the acquiring of the promises of God. Now more than ever it is time to focus on your faith. You have to completely immerse yourself in the Word of God and build up your faith to see the miraculous. Obtaining bible promises, securing great results and experiencing supernatural exploits in life are achieved through the potency of faith. You will never come to a place where you do not have to work on your faith. You must constantly be feeding your faith and exercising your faith in order for you to walk in the supernatural. Here are some tips on how to focus on your faith,
- Cut all worldly distractions out and give ample time the reading of the Word
- Abstract yourself from negative voices. These can be voices of well meaning friends, bad experiences and the devil
- Associate with people who have strong faith
- Create an environment of faith by listening or watching faith boosting messages
One thing is for sure - Distraction is the enemy of faith. Satan knows that if he can distract you then he can destroy you. As long as Peter was focused on Jesus he could walk on the water but the moment he was distracted by the wind and the waves he began to sink. What had the wind and waves have to do with him walking on the water? Absolutely nothing! Many times what distract us are nothing- things. When you have that sinking feeling check what has distracted your focus away from the Word.
I constantly remind myself that if I feel stressed out then my eyes are no longer on the promises of God but on the problem. If I feel overwhelmed by life's situations then I am listening to the voices of the world such as fear, doubt and unbelief rather than the voice of the Word or the voice of the Spirit. The Psalmist was very clear in his advice to us when we feel overwhelmed,
...when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Here is an interesting thing that I have discovered. While many profess to listening to good Bible teachings and many profess to studying their Bible which I do not doubt and yet they are overwhelmed. Why? It is not that they are not listening to good biblical teachings, it is that they are not listening to teachings the will specifically deal with stress, worry and fear. Let me give you an example - Suppose you go to your church on Sunday for the next four Sundays of the month and the subject is, 'The flood of Noah'. While you will receive good biblical information but it does not help you with your stressful and overwhelming situation. This is why you must deliberately find teachings on these subjects in order to boost your faith to deal with fear, doubt and stress. Be deliberate as to what enters your ears because it will either trigger faith or fear.
I am very particular about what I listen to specially when in times of needs. While I study the Bible thoroughly and love all the topical, exegetical and expository lessons but I am super focused when it comes to sharpening my faith. I work on it all the time because I realized what John the apostle said many years ago is so true,
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4
