Divine health belongs to in your latter years

Part 2

In our previous article we saw that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob all experienced long life and health. Since we are under a new covenant with better promises it is only logical that we can also live a long satisfying life with great health. How long is long life?

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Psalm 90:10

Now traditionally many have taken this verse to mean that man’s life expectation is to be seventy years old and at, best eighty years on the earth. Does that belong to those of us living in the New Covenant? No, not at all! As a matter of fact it did not factor much from Abraham and the patriarchs until the wilderness. This verse in Psalm was talking about those who came out of Egypt and were in the wilderness. Now you have to remember the reasons why they were in the wilderness: it was because of disobedience, rebellion, fear and unbelief. The wilderness generation dare to defy God and His promises. The Amplified Bible’s footnote on this verse is very enlightening:

This psalm is credited to Moses, who is interceding with God to remove the curse which made it necessary for every Israelite over twenty years of age (when they rebelled against God at Kadesh-barnea) to die before reaching the promised land of Canaan (Num 14:26-35). Moses himself lived to be 120 years old, Aaron 123, Miriam several years older, and Joshua 110 years of age…

So you need to believe that long life and great health belong to you.

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

 Psalm 91:16

Now you may ask yourself, ‘Why then am I not in good health?’ You see when it comes to health two things are very important,

1. Follow the instruction and prescriptions of the physician especially the Divine Physician

2. Prevention is better than cure

Far too many wait until their health deteriorate to start believing for health. That is not wisdom! Here is a very important point - Wisdom and health go together

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

 Proverbs 12:18

In order for you to have health you must have the tongue of the wise. You cannot talk with the tongue of the foolish and expect to walk in health. There is a connection with your tongue and your health. No, I am not talking about positive confession but as the centurion said, ‘Speak the word only and my servant shall be healed.’ (Matthew 8:8)

Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Proverbs 16:22-24

What are pleasant words? The author of Hebrews gives us a clue, ‘But without faith it is impossible to please him:’ (Hebrews 11:6) Pleasant words are words which are filled with faith which comes from the mouth of God and they are found in the B . I . B . L . E.  They are God’s promises that are found in His Word. When it comes to health there is:

  • What the world is saying
  • What God has said
  • What you are saying

If you say what the world says then you will have what the world says. If you say what God has said about your health then your body will have to get in line and obey. James, the Lord’s brother unveiled this truth to us:

Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

James 3:3-5

The bits that we put in our mouths are the promises of God to make our body obey and turn towards health. Remember I said, when it comes to health two things are very important:

  • Follow the instruction and prescriptions of the physician especially the Divine Physician
  • Prevention is better than cure

You must follow the prescription of the doctor if you want to recover your health. If your doctor has prescribed for you to take the medication three times daily then you have to follow that which is prescribed in order to recover. You cannot take matters into your own hands and say, ‘Well I don’t care what the doctor says, I will only take one daily.’ If you do that, you will not recover because you did not follow the prescription. In like manner, we must follow the prescription of the Great Physician if we want to walk in great health. What is His prescription?

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.  Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee

Proverbs 4:20-25

God’s prescription for your health is to keep His Word in your mouth, eyes and ears. These are gates to your spirit which will affect your flesh from within. Secondly, prevention is better than cure simply means do not wait when you are sick to do something about your health. Do it when you are well. Speak the Word daily to your body, get some exercise, drink plenty of water and eat living food. Get away from junk food which is death food. You cannot abuse your body and expect it to perform at optimum level.
