7 decisions that will change your life

The average person whether a believer or an unbeliever has an innate desire to better their life but the problem is that they just don't know how to go about it. You would think that a believer would be in a different position that an unbeliever but unfortunately the average believer is no different than the unbeliever except in his eternal destiny being heaven. Therefore the average believer suffers the same consequences as the unbeliever, going through the same panic, stress, financial woes and heartaches as unbelievers but with the only respite that things will get better when we get to heaven.  Consequently they are all in the same boat regarding knowledge on how to be successful on earth. The Word is extremely clear when it declared, 'My people perish for a lack of knowledge.'(Hosea 4:6) Your ignorance is the strength of your enemy. If the believer is not informed then he will be conformed to the world which will then deform his life and wellbeing, but once informed he can then be transformed for a life of victory on the earth, not just when he gets to heaven.

Your ignorance is the strength of your enemy

In order to get the ball rolling, you need to understand that life as you are experiencing it right now is a result of the decisions that you have previously made. Sometimes decisions have been made on your behalf and you are living the consequences. One important thing you must realize is that attached to decisions are consequences. There are no two ways around this. Decisions trigger consequences - good or bad. Good decisions will trigger good consequences and bad decisions will trigger bad consequences. Many years ago, I heard Dr Mike Murdock make this powerful statement, 'Decisions determine destinies'. That is so true! This means that you will need to make some quality decisions to get your life on the path of success and victory.

Two things are involved. First you will need to make decisions and secondly these decisions must be quality decisions. Let us define these two things.

  • A decision is a course of action to be taken after careful mental consideration to effect desired change.
  • A quality decision is a decision which is based upon principles rather than emotions and once you take it you do not draw back when it is inconvenient. A quality decision is principle driven and not emotional driven

Too many people make emotional decisions that do not last the test of time. For example, if you watch a movie about being a world class champion boxer such as Rocky or any other movie in the same genre, as you watch that movie you feel inspired and you decide that you will also work out and be disciplined. You do it for one week and then as you walk by the Donut store all of a sudden all your Rocky inspiration flies out the window and you stuff your mouth with donuts like they are about to go out of business. That is what you call an emotional decision and not a quality decision. Here are seven decisions that you need to make in order for your life to be changed on the earth.

  1. Make the decision to live under the authority of God's Word
  2. Make the decision to walk by faith
  3. Make the decision to live offense free
  4. Make the decision to be a voracious reader
  5. Make the decision to be a goal setter
  6. Make the decision to pursue good relationships
  7. Make the decision to be a tither and a giver

Let me briefly touch on each of them and give you some information to help.

1. Decide to live under the authority of God's Word.

Your first decision to having a successful changed life is to make the Word of God the first and final authority in your life.  The Bible was not given to grace your coffee table but for you to live by it. Jesus said, 'Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.' (Matthew 4:4). Successful Christian living begins and ends with the Word of God. If the Bible says it then that settles it.  Make up your mind to live by the Word of God. His Word becomes your command.

2. Decide to walk by faith.

Living by faith is the modus operandi of the believer. The Word emphatically declares, 'The Just shall live by faith.' The Pauline epistles categorically reveal this truth. Walking by faith is your walk of dominion over the works of the world, the flesh and the devil. Living by faith simply means you hear, believe and act on God's Word as quickly as you would act upon the word of an attorney or doctor.

3. Decide to live offense free.

Walking in offense with others will paralyze your faith quickly.  Offense is poison to your faith. It will break down your spiritual immune system. As a virus affects the effectiveness, the content and the speed of a computer, offense is a virus that will affect the speed of your faith and corrupt your soul. Offense will keep you away from healing and blessing. Make a decision to live offense free with all people and situations.

4. Decide to be a voracious reader.

Great people are readers. The late Dr Myles Munroe used to say, 'Leaders are readers.' There are treasures and oil to be desired in books. Give yourself to much reading. The apostle Paul was a voracious reader. Moses was a reader as was Daniel. Read spiritual books and books that will motivate you. Fill your mind with information on a daily basis.

5. Decide to be a goal setter.

One of the greatest secrets to a life of success is to learn the master key of goal setting. Set financial goals, life goals and career goals. Any field that you find yourself in, set goals for it and in it.  In order to fulfill your goals you need to write them down. God told Habakkuk to write the vision down (Habakkuk 2:2) Goal setting is the principal tool enabling you to tap into your full potential. Every small step in fulfilling your short-term goals will trigger a boost and confidence to fulfill long term goals. Go for it and set goals for your life.

6. Decide to pursue good relationships.

By now It should have dawned on you that relationships are keys to take you to the next level and phase of your life.  It took a Moses to bring Joshua to prominence. It took a Gamaliel to bring Saul of Tarsus into prominence and it took Jesus to bring Peter, James and John to prominence. You should make it your life ambition to pursue people who can take you into your Promised Land.

7. Decide to be a tither and a giver.

God is a liberal giver and when you are a giver you are expressing the image of your Heavenly Father. To be a tither, a giver and walk by faith without taking any offense in anything from anyone will keep you on the road of success. Do not listen to preachers who tell you that tithing is not for us today and that it is legalistic. I want to remind you that your father in the faith, Abraham was a tither and he tithed to Melchizedek the high priest. We tithe to our heavenly Melchizedek, Jesus Christ our great high priest.  Once you make up your mind that you will be a faithful tither and giver then life will be an adventure for you.
