In these days in which we are living, known as The End Times, it is imperative for the believer to grasp the importance of Bible Prophecy. Over one quarter of the Bible deals with prophecies and if the modern day believer is ignorant of these facts then the believer is doing a gross injustice to himself.

What is Bible Prophecy?

The Bible is a book of prophecies

  1. Personal prophecies
  2. Scriptural prophecies
  3. Eschatalogical prophecies

Today we will mainly be looking at  Eschatological Prophecies.  The study of the end times is Called ESCHATOLOGY

Eschatos - Last/ End

Logy - Knowledge and study

Christian eschatology (wide range) looks to study and discuss matters such as

  • Death and the afterlife,
  • Heaven and Hell
  • The Rapture - (Not in the Bible - neither is the world Bible)
  • The Resurrection of the Dead
  • The Great Tribulation Period
  • The physical visible Second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ
  • The Millenium reign
  • The end of the world
  • The last Judgment
  • The New heaven and the new earth to come

All of these are found in the Bible, the Holy Scriptures which Paul told Timothy will make you wise. Therefore the Believer that does not study Bible Prophecy in the light of Scriptures will not be wise  unto salvation.

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:13-15

  • Future prophecies to be fulfilled

Bible prophecy is history written in advance.

It is of utmost importance for the believer to study Bible Prophecy. Give this topic as much time as you would to healing, prosperity and everything else if not more. The question we must ask today is,

Why don't believers study Bible Prophecy?

  1. 1) Bible Prophecy is too hard and too confusing to understand
  2. 2) Bible prophecy has nothing to do with my everyday life. It isin the future and does not addres my need NOW!
  3. 3)It is too scary
  4. 4) It is not important as long as I believe that God wins

These are all lame excuses.

Why should believers study Bible Prophecy?

1 Bible prophecy is the key to understanding the bible, knowing the plans of God and to refute heresy. A knowledge of end-time events gives the believer a framework upon which to hang the rest of the Scripture.

2 Bible Prophecy drives the believer to live godly lives, a sanctified life and be on fire for God

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

2Peter 3:10-14

3 Bible prophecy gives you a bible ideology and helps you to gauge the time in which we live

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5

4 Bible prophecy removes the believer from a place of ignorance, fear, stupidity to a place of alertness, excitement and zeal for the Lord.

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Hebrews 10:24-26

5 Bible Prophecy is an effective tool for soul winning and evangelism

And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Acts 2:40

6 Bible Prophecy is THE CENTRAL THEME of the bible revealing JESUS

When it comes to Bible Prophecy - The Word tells us to look at three things

  • Israel - The blooming of the fig tree
  • World - Apostasy, lawlessness and increase of perversion, rise of certain nations and religions
  • Church - Apostasy
