Initiating a closer walk with God

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you - The apostle James who was the half brother of the Lord Jesus Christ unveils a mystery to us that is so simple yet overlooked by so many believers. How close do you want to be with God? Many want a closer walk with God like it was said of Enoch,

Genesis 5:24; "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."

So many would love this to be said about them but do not know how to access this testimony. James who grew up in the same home of Jesus would know what it would take to get close to Jesus. Yet this was not the case for him at the beginning.

Mark 3:20, 21; "Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.  When his family[a] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

John 7:3-5; "Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” For even his own brothers did not believe in him."

His family thought he was crazy an his own brothers did not believe in him. His brothers would have included James. There was time that James who grew up with Jesus was not close to Jesus even though they lived in the same house and grew up together. Things changed after the Resurrection. James realized his brother was Lord and Messiah and he gave us a clue as to how we can get closer to Jesus. You have to initiate it. How close do you want God to walk with you is determined by you! The moment you initiate a 'drawing near' he will draw near.
Here are several Scriptures that let us know that the ball is in your court:

James 4:8; "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

Exodus 19:20-24 The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, "Go down, warn the people, so that they do not break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. "Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, or else the LORD will break out against them." read more.'

Exodus 20:18-19 "All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. Then they said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die."

Isaiah 55:1-3; "Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost. "Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And delight yourself in abundance. "Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, According to the faithful mercies shown to David."

Isaiah 55:6-7; "Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon."

Psalms 65:4; "How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

Zephaniah 3:2; "He heeded no voice, She accepted no instruction. She did not trust in the LORD, She did not draw near to her God."
