And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
In the original Greek text this verse reads as, Have the faith of God or have the God kind of faith. In other words this is how the faith of God in a believer is to operate. I especially love the Aramaic Bible in Plain English rendition of this verse stating, ‘May the faith of God be in you…’. It reminds me of the famous line from th old Star Wars movie, ‘May the force be with you.’ As a born-again believer, when you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the measure of the faith of God was deposited into your spirit. All born-again believers start with the same measure of faith and that is at the seed level. However as you use it, plant and water it on a daily basis, it will grow exceedingly.
The first thing I want you to understand about faith is that it does not come by problems. Faith comes by the Word of God. We have seen millions of people who, when troubles come, they wither away. For faith to come the Word has to come on some level and then the faith that has come will dispense the mountain of problems. The Apostle John unveiled this awesome truth in his epistle, ‘…And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.’ (1 John 5:4) This is why it is extremely important you keep working on your faith. Study it! Exercise it! Supplement it to perform at peak level. So before going any further we have to briefly define faith.
1. Faith is the believer’s ‘God prescribed way’ to live and walk in the earth.
Four times in the Bible we are told that the just shall live by faith. Here are the Scripture references. Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38. The just is one who has been justified and declared righteous by the shed blood of Christ. There is only one prescribed way for the just to live and that is by faith. Paul emphasized this thought to the Galatians:
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Why is this so important to understand?
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
2. Faith is the way out of impossibilities
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
If you can believe… not if you can sing, not if you have a good education…
3. Faith is key to the supernatural
3. Faith is the believer’s dominion walk over the world, the flesh and the devil
As an athlete would give his body supplements to be a peak performer, you need to realize that there are supplements to your faith that will cause you to outlast your opponents. Peter gives us a great insight on this subject:
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2 Peter 1:5
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge…
New Living Translation
Supplement your faith with a generous provision of…
That is enlightening!!! I want to drive into you the importance of supplementing your faith. It needs a generous provision. In other words, ‘Don’t shortchange your faith. Take whatever is needed to keep it running smoothly.’ You see, there are things that you must have to cause your faith to operate swifter and better. So what kind of supplements does your faith need? Over the next few articles I will talk to you about different supplements that you need.
