Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil.
Proverbs 3:5-7 – New Living Translation
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!
Proverbs 3:5-7 – The Message Translation
1) Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go
Divine direction is direction from God. It is following the path and plan of God for your life, career and ministry. Direction from God is absolutely crucial for your breakthrough and victory in life. Those who know the voice of God will eliminate frustration, worry, fear, doubt and anxiety out of their lives. Those who do not know how to discern the voice of God to receive direction will be victim of circumstances.
Where there is no vision, the people perish
Proverbs 29:18
When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.
New Living Translation
When you do not have direction from above then you will run wildly in life. A lack of direction from above makes you a wandering generality rather than a meaningful specific.
2) Those who make their marks in the earth are those who have received instruction from above and applied it
Paul
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Acts 9:6
David
But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
2 Samuel 5;17-19
3) Why is direction from above imperative to the believer?
Man cannot lead himself
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
Jeremiah 10:23
You do not know and cannot see the pitfalls, traps and snares that Satan has planted
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 16:25
To avoid destruction
For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
Job 33:14-18

Receiving Direction From Above
Whatever is troubling you is not troubling God. Whatever is disturbing you is certainly not disturbing God. If you knew what He knew then you would be just like God: cool, calm and collected.
